How to Plan a House Move

December 14, 2017 By Admin Leave a Comment

Shifting to a new house is exciting but it’s difficult too. Packing up all the stuff and moving it to a new place, can prove to be very exhausting. In order to make this process easy, you need to plan everything. There are different steps of planning and organizing.

It will be a lot easier for you to move when you will plan it properly. Everything needs to be organized. Once you are done with the planning part, implementing it will be very easy for you.

Packing Supplies

The first thing that you need to do is to get some packing supplies. Boxes are the most important packing supply. You need a lot of boxes for packing for stuff. These boxes can be purchased or you could recycle boxes that you already have.

You can also ask your friends and relatives for boxes instead of spending money on them. You are also going to need bubble wraps, scissors, scotch tape and sometimes rope also come in handy. Once you gather all these supplies it will be a lot easier for you to pack your stuff and move it to the new place.

Make an Inventory

The next thing you should do is to make an inventory of all your things. For that, you simply need a notepad and pen.

List down all the things that you have. It’s better to note them down room wise. It seems like an unnecessary job but once you get all your stuff packed in the boxes then this inventory list will be very helpful to find your things.

It will also help you to organize things in each box. This way you will know that where each thing is and in which box you have put which stuff.

Organise the Packing

Now that you have all the packing material and a list of all your things, you should start packing. Instead of haphazardly putting things in boxes, start with a single room.

When you are putting things in the boxes make sure that you put heavier objects first and then put lighter things on the top. Don’t overburden any box. Just put an appropriate amount of things in each box.

When you are done with one room then move to the next room for packing. It’s better to prioritize that which room you want to pack first and which one later.

Labels

Label each box when you are done putting things in it. Use a simple marker or coloured label papers for this purpose. This will help you to find your things when you will unpack them.

What Not to Pack

It’s better to not pack your personal things with other boxes like your laptop, personal documents, any other sensitive thing etc.

Pack them separately and try to take them with you when you move to the new place.

Also, it’s not wise to pack any harmful thing. For instance any flammable or poisonous object. Treat them separately and keep them away from other things.

When you Vacate

Make sure that all documentation and paperwork is in order. Make sure all locks, doors and keys are accounted for and functional. If you are using more advanced keyless technology, this should be tested and if necessary, checked by your local locksmith.

Make sure that the yard is in good order and that all rubbish is removed. There is nothing worse for a new owner than to have to start life with their new property by cleaning up someone else’s mess.

If you were renting, there may be obligations for cleaning and yard maintenance that can affect your lease agreement.
